Mistakes to avoid when planning your dream wedding on a budget

In major parts of Africa, especially in Nigeria, weddings are a big deal and they often love to be celebrated in the African way; the grand style.  Weddings create blissful memories mostly because you get to spend the rest of your life with the love of your life and it is something to be celebrated.  Having your dream wedding could come with a lot of stress especially when you need to stick to a budget. While planning your dream wedding, here are some mistakes to avoid:

1.      Not planning a budget
Many people go overboard by trying to have a wedding beyond their means and as a result, they are overwhelmed with stress and frustration. It does not have to be that way if you plan your wedding strategically. To have your dream wedding, you need to know how much you can afford and make it work. How much savings can you put towards the wedding? Who else would be contributing to the wedding financially? Financial donations could come from family and friends as wedding gifts. After planning your budget, stick with it.

2.      Trying to please people
In Africa, a large percentage of people often want to please the society by making sure their weddings create a buzz and at the end, they displease themselves. Taking advice from everyone on how huge your wedding should be can make you shift further away from your budget and creates enormous debt. Take the advice you can but make sure you don’t try to please people by displeasing yourself.

3.      Choosing the wrong venue
The venue is the most important aspect of the wedding. You do not need to rent an expensive hall that can carry a thousand people when you can rent one that can carry a lesser number of people. Know your numbers and do not go with the crowd. You can choose to be adventurous and have an outdoor wedding with minimal cost. That will help you save more while having your dream wedding.

4.      Hiring an expensive event planner when you can do it yourself
There are a lot of things you can do yourself.  With the help of your friends and family members, a lot can be achieved.  If you are good with graphic design, you can create your invitation cards as well as send them via emails since we are in a digitally advanced globe. Family members can help with food and drinks. Your friends can set up the venue and sound system as well as help you be in control of the music. If you have someone really good with fashion designing, then you are certain you have your wedding dress at an affordable rate.

Weddings can still be great when you stick to a budget. Small things often turn out great. The most important thing is that you get to share these awesome memories with the love of your life without acquiring so much wedding debt that will disturb your honeymoon. All the best and have a blast.
